Sneak Peek :: Statements in Stone

My absolute favorite thing about jewelry making is working with natural gemstones. I love them all...from rough and raw, to polished and refined. It's so true that they carry their own unique energies. I can't explain it, but something about stones just draws me in. I often hoard them, not having a real clear vision of what I will make with the stones I buy {the stones used in the necklaces above I've had for at least 3 years}. If they call my name, I buy them. I usually store them in various places around my studio, just so I can soak up their energy and admire them each time I pass by. Eventually, they make their way onto my workbench and I stare at them until something happens. I work with them, arrange and rearrange, combine them with a mixture of metals and materials, step back, undo, redo, add more, subtract, revise, and repeat. Often, it's a frustrating process. But in the end, the piece created seems {to me} to take on whatever form it was meant to be. I especially love that each final piece is one of a kind and as unique as the stones themselves.

Some more lovelies I made over the past week. I've been busy this month, digging through my supply of gemstones to make all one of a kind pieces. It had been far too long since I had done that and my creative side was screaming for attention. The result--statement pieces in stone and mixed metals. I can't wait to share more with you!

If you're in the Kansas City area, you can come see them in person next weekend! I'll debut these babies and other lovelies at the Handmade & Vintage Chick Event. It's a pop up marketplace for all things handmade and vintage by local artists and artisans, complete with good eats by local restaurants and good beats by local musicians.

I'm really looking forward to it and hope to see you there!

Sneak Peek :: I love it raw... and of course versatile ;)

It seems like there's very little time these days to create new one of a kind pieces, but I managed to hammer out this one recently.  It's a rough chunk of prasiolite (also known as green amethyst) suspended from sterling silver wire that I wrapped and hammered, to go with the raw look of the stone.

It slides freely along a delicate satellite chain that I oxidized and then polished.  Little rough pyrite nuggets accent the chain as well.  It's finished with a sturdy sterling bar that I also hammered and wire wrapped to the necklace.

This piece can be worn short by doubling the chain, pulling the bar toward the front, and toggling through the focal.  It can also be worn long simply by opening the necklace to a single strand and pulling it over your head.  Either way you wear it, it's great as a simple stand alone piece or layered with other chain necklaces.

Available in the shop soon, along with a couple of other new pieces in the same style!  I'm so in love with gemstones (no big surprise), but there's something about stones in their rough, natural state that makes them truly intriguing to me...uncut, unpolished, yet still gorgeous.  They're also extra special because no two raw stones are ever alike.  More will make their appearance in the shop, so be on the look out!

Have a safe and happy weekend!

Sneak Peek :: Remember these sparklies?

I've been busy using them all up, but have not had much time to take photos and list.  But here are a couple finished pieces.  The first is available here in my shop.  The second piece, I'm still debating whether to list it or to keep it for my personal collection.  We'll see.  :)

I'm so in love with lepidochrosite! All the glittery inclusions are so mesmerizing!

What do you think?  Should I keep it or list it???

Sneak Peek :: items in the waiting room

Just wanted to share some snapshots of just a few of the many new items just waiting to be listed...

My signature "Trickle" necklace featuring African Opal

My signature Wrap and Thread Necklace featuring Sunstone pebbles
A wire and chain wrapped Chalcedony pendant accented with Moss Green Apatite
A simple wire wrapped glowing Green Onyx drop on an oxidized sterling satellite chain

But realistically, these may never see the light of Etsy because I'm so busy prepping for 3 upcoming shows!  I'll be at the Zona Rosa Art Festival in Kansas City (Sept. 17-19), the Longview Art and World Music Festival in Lee's Summit (Oct. 1-3), and Haute Market in Overland Park (Oct. 7).  Both art festivals are 3-day shows, so I'm a little nervous about whether or not I'll have enough inventory.  So I'm just creating away, every waking second I have to spare (which isn't much).  I guess it was a blessing in disguise that my first art fest was rained out and I have a lot of pieces left over from that show.  I'll keep you posted on my progress.  Maybe a few sneak peeks here and there.  Til next time!

[oh, and tune in tomorrow for a brand new Featured Artist!]

Sneak Peek :: tomboy necklaces

Glass marble necklaces for your inner tomboy! Okay, so these aren't really sneak peeks since they're available now in my shop. The green one has been reserved, but the red/blue/yellow one is still available. I have a few more of these glass marble beads so those will be listed some time in the near future. These would make great gifts or stocking stuffers for your favorite tomboy. ;)

Sneak Peek :: winter runway collection

Here's a little peek at some of the pieces I'll be sending down the runway next month. I wanted to make bold pieces, but nothing too overpowering. These feature chunky vintage lucite chain, which I LOVE and hope to make some available in my shop soon. [so much I want to do... so very little time.. *le sigh*]

Info and tickets for the show are available at

Sneak Peek :: new necklaces

Some new necklaces will be sprouting up in my shop. I've been playing around with wire wrapping (which takes so much time and patience on my part). I hope you like the results! I've kept things light and airy so that the stones can just shine as they are.

And I've also gotten my hands on some gorgeous vintage Italian brass keys that I just had to make some pieces with. Here are a couple of new wrap and thread necklaces featuring a key as the focal. I'll list these as soon as I can get some better pictures taken (it was really cloudy the day I snapped these).

Any thoughts?? :)

And be sure to check back tomorrow for my next FEATURED ARTIST!

Sneak Peek :: long or short

Lavender Blue

I've been thinking about additional ways to make earrings more versatile and came up with a simple idea... the long or short earring... (one you can wear long or short). I'm not quite sure what to call this design just yet, but that's as good as it gets at the moment. If you can help me come up with a clever name for this design, you can win a pair of my new long-short earrings! :) Hmm, maybe I can have a name game for this design like Nicole of Lillyella.

Kryptonite

I'd love some feedback on what you think of this idea. Should I add it to my collection?

These two pairs are one of a kind and will be available in my shop soon. If you'd like to reserve either pair, please convo or email me. In the meantime, you can check out the new items I listed today.

And tune in tomorrow for a brand new featured artist spot!

Sneak Peek at some new items...

As promised, here's a peek at what I've been working on lately. Fresh items to be available soon! I know I'm a bit behind schedule, but better late than never, right?

So here's some of what you'll be seeing in my etsy shop and on envedesigns.com soon:

I've been enjoying mixing metals.. e.g., sterling silver with gunmetal, oxidized silver with unoxidized silver, oxidized silver with gold.. so you'll be seeing several pieces along those lines.

I love making my signature wrap and thread necklaces so there will be lots of those to choose from! Styles will range from classically subtle and sleek, to pieces that will definitely capture some attention. I've also incorporated other metals (antique brass, gunmetal, antique copper) into this design, along with the traditional silver and gold pieces I've designed in the past. I also came across some gorgeous vintage Italian brass keys that I've made the focal of several wrap and thread necklaces! Pictures of those to come.

You'll also be seeing lots of juicy colors to liven up your spring and summer!!! Featuring genuine rubies, various shades of chalcedony, amethyst, peridot, garnet, carnelian, apatite, aquamarine, jade, aventurine... and probably more I can't think of off the top of my head.

I'd love to hear what you think! And if you're interested in anything you see in particular, feel free to email me (contact@envedesigns.com) and reserve it. The two wrap and thread necklaces pictured above are not going to be available through my sites.. they're on their way to a boutique in New York! But if you're interested, I can design something similar for you.

And if you want to be the first to know when new items are available, along with exclusive discounts and specials, you're welcome to follow my blog and subscribe to the mailing list (email to subscribe@envedesigns.com).

I'll be back for more sneak peeks as soon as I get a chance to take more photos. Now back to work before my son wakes up from his nap! :)

Have a lovely Monday!
